Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) - BDS or Bachelor of Dental Science is an undergraduate dentistry course with five and half years duration, of which four and a half years will be for theory, while one year will be for rotatory internship. One of the most desirable course in health sector after MBBS is BDS.
The eligibility for this undergraduate course is scoring a minimum of 50% in senior secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. The average tuition fee of BDS course ranges from INR 50,000 to INR 12 lacs. A candidate needs to take an entrance test (NEET) to take admission to this dentistry degree.
A total of 313 colleges are registered in the records of the Dental Council of India which is the regulatory authority for all BDS courses. However only 308 have been permitted to take admissions while the remaining 5 colleges have been restricted from admitting students for some reasons. These 308 colleges can take around 26620 seats in all. The counselling is centralised for these seats whole the rest of the seats are through the respective state regulatory bodies.
