Present scenario of international students in Ukraine

Currently, Ukraine is the third most popular destination for Indians who want to study medicine abroad after China and Russia. According to Ukrainian government data, more than 11,000 Indian students currently study in Ukraine out of 75,000 international students from 154 countries. Most Indian students attend the state medical universities in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. The Donetsk National Medical University, which had to move to the port city of Mariupol in 2015 after Russia unleashed its war in the Donbas, has also retained its popularity with Indian students.

Ukraine as an education provider

Ukraine has a long tradition of teaching medicine. And some of the oldest educational institutions in Europe are located in this country. 

Now, three universities — Odessa, Kyiv, and Kharkov — are popular among foreigners, particularly Indian, students. Universities are quite large, and among studying foreigners one can meet not only citizens of India, but also other countries of Asia, Africa and even the Caribbean. In such an international composition the foreign applicants will be fairly easy to get comfortable. Ukrainian people are friendly to foreign guests.

Admission Process to study MBBS in Ukraine / Student visa process to study in Ukraine. 

To apply for a student visa, first, you need to apply in a university for a program and acquire a letter of invitation. 

Admission Requirements:

This refers to the documents required to qualify for university admission/invitation letter. They are:

  • A filled online application form.

  • A copy of your international passport

  • A legalized copy of secondary school completion certificate (or subject grades)*.

  • A fee confirmation copy (bank copy) – After approbation of acceptance.

Supplementary Requirements for Postgraduate students (in addition):

  • A copy of the project work

  • A copy of the bachelor's / master's degree certificates

  • Results and transcripts

All documents must be notarized/legalized and translated into Ukrainian or Russian language.

All international applicants coming to Ukraine intending to study must obtain a student visa, which is only possible upon receiving an “Invitation to study” from the university they are applying to. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine defines the standard of the invitation letter. After the enrollment procedure is complete, the student will receive by express mail DHL and/or TNT the original invitation/admission letter of enrollment, and all documents that are necessary for the Student Visa request.

To obtain a long-stay visa (type D), you must submit a series of documents to the consulate or embassy of Ukraine in India. Regardless of where you submit your documents, you will always be asked to include the original “Invitation to study” [This is the document you receive from the university where you have applied for admission. This letter will be issued once the university accepts your application].  

 

Ukraine Student Visa Application Basic Requirements

  • Visa Application form – in Embassy.

  • Original valid passport

  • 3 photographs (3x4cm)

  • Original invitation letter sent to you by express post

  • Original health certificate - which should be approved by the health ministry of India and should be issued within a month of your VISA application.

  • Original HIV-AIDS negative certificate - which also has one-month validity

  • Certificate of Completed Higher and/or Secondary Education

  • Bank statement - as proof that you can handle financial costs

  • Original birth certificate

The Ukrainian Govt instructs that the documents from your previous education must be officially certified before submission to the consulate. This can be done one of two ways: legalized by the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Ukraine in India or certified by Apostille stamp and legalized at the Embassy of Ukraine in India. These documents must be officially recognized in Ukraine for a Ukrainian university to be able to issue your diploma certificate upon graduation. The above documents should be translated to Ukrainian or Russian languages and legalized from the ministry of foreign affairs of India, before applying to the embassy. 

Most embassies accept and issue visas between 15th July and 15th November.When you apply for a visa, you may have to answer a few questions regarding your course and the duration of your course, your reasons for choosing the university you did, whether you decide to stay on in Ukraine after completing your studies and whether you have adequate arrangements to cover tuition cost, accommodation, etc.

 

Eligibility Criteria

To get MBBS admission in Ukraine, the applicant should fulfill the following criteria:

  1. The applicant must be 18 years old on or at the time of admission.

  2. The applicant must secure 50% or above in PCB i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology from ISC, CBSE and any other state board.

  3. According to the MCI Rules, students aspiring to enroll in Foreign Medical Universities in 2019, should appear and qualify in NEET – 2019; they should produce an Eligibility Certificate issued by the Medical Council of India at the time of admission to Foreign Medical Universities. All the general category candidates should get 134 (general) and all the scheduled caste candidates should get 107 (ST/OBC).

  • Migration card (it must be filled in by you in the airport upon arrival to Airport in Ukraine).

  • All original school and Medicine certificates translated and legalized from your home country, and the Ukrainian embassy
